Manayunk is one of the most pet-friendly neighborhoods in Philadelphia.
In addition to dog walking services, doggy day cares, pet-friendly shops, and a general dog-friendly culture (there is actually a festival for dogs called the dog days of summer), there is a pet bakery on Main Street, and dog social club (Bark Social), plus lots of dog parks and places for your dog to run around Manayunk, including:
- Pretzel Park – 4300 Silverwood – Pretzel Park is located in the heart of Manayunk and has a dog run (a dedicated fenced in area for dogs to exercise unleashed). There are currently only seven authorized dog runs in the entire city of Philadelphia. Please follow the dog run rules at the facility.
- Roxborough Dog Park – 4117 Mitchell Street – a volunteer run dog park which requires a membership to keep the park operational. Current rates are about $25/per quarter or about $100/year (rates subject to change). Check their website for specifics.
- Fairview Park – 4418 Manayunk Ave. – part of the Philly park system, not technically a dog park, but this is a 1 acre park in Manayunk with shade trees and benches.
- Gorgas Park – 6300 Ridge Avenue -Although not technically a dog park, people enjoy bringing their dog to the park and all dogs/pets must be on a leash at all times. Be sure to observe any signs or areas where pets cannot go. Gorgas Park is also known for their events throughout the summer.
- Schuylkill River Trail / Manayunk Tow Path – While not technically a dog park, you may choose to bring your dog on a walk or run here given close proximity to Main Street (the trail is located directly behind Main Street). Just remember to follow trail rules, including dogs must be kept on a leash and under control, and cleaning up pet waste.
- Wissahickon Park – While not technically a dog park, there are lots of trails here and you can bring your dog provided it is on a leash of six feet or less and follow all city and park rules. Check out forbidden drive.
There are lots of choices for dog parks and places for dogs in Manayunk.
Just be sure to observe posted signage and general Philly-park rules and ordinances. There are lots of reasons Manayunk is a great place to have a dog. After your visit to the dog park, perhaps check out some of the many dog-friendly restaurants in Manayunk, stroll by the dog-friendly pet bakery in Main Street in Manayunk, check out dog social club, or many doggy day cares and pet friendly shops.
