Yes, although many people think it’s separate, Manayunk is part of the City of Philadelphia. Manayunk is a popular neighborhood located in Northwest Philadelphia, with the zip code 19127. 

While neighborhood boundaries are not agreed on by everyone, generally Manayunk is bound by Manayunk Avenue to the North, Leverington Avenue to the West, and Shurs Lane to the East, and Main Street.

The area known as Manayunk today dates back to late 1600s and early 1700s.

Manayunk is located in the City of Philadelphia, and more specifically in Northwest Philadelphia, about a 15-minute drive from Center City. Manayunk is also near Roxborough, Mt Airy, Chestnut Hill, and other Northwest Philadelphia Neighborhoods. It is also near by to the Main Line Suburbs such as Bala Cynwyd, Gladwyne, Ardmore, Bryn Mawr, Villanova and others.

What is the Meaning of Manayunk?

It was actually originally named Flat Rock, but in 1824 the name changed to the Lenape word for river (manaiung) (where we go to drink). Eventually, spelling changed slightly to Manayunk. It became part of the City of Philadelphia in 1854.
